I’ve made it to Fez and was placed with a wonderful family in the old medina in a district called Ras Jnan. The family runs a beautiful four-story guest house with roof access and put me up in one of the rooms on the ground floor. Here is a video of where I’ll be living until the end of December.
I arrived in Fez during the holiday that marks the end of Ramadan: the family had stayed up the night before until 4am to break the fast, then woke up again at 9am to have another meal. The rest of the day was spent sleeping, eating, and sleeping some more. Still feeling a bit jet-lagged and exhausted from our marathon of lectures in Rabat, that schedule suited me just fine. I took the video between catnaps: the boy passed out in the video is my host brother, Mustapha (17).
Along with Mustapha, I live with my host mom, Nadia, and father Mohammad, sister Amina (20) and youngest brother Amin (12). My first night at the house I went to the traditional hammam (bathhouse) with Amina, and have strolled with her a few times around town.
wowza laurs, so many thoughts running through my head. First of all, your filming skills have come along quickly! That is some quality stuff! Second, you have such an amazing view of the city!! And does the passed out kid on the couch come with the house?
can’t wait to go to the hammam!
and good lord that’s their HOUSE? unbelievable!
